I just rinse it in soapy water and the blades clean easily. There are two speeds. I use the lowest for blending soups ect and the highest for beating. Warning,always make sure the blades are well covered by the liquid before blending as there can be splashing of the liquid. I make sure there is at least 3" but for small amount hold you can simply hold your palm above the area. I have never had any problems with this hand blender and i always recommend it to my friends. .
